How to Apply

2017/18 Accommodation Applications – September Entry

If you’ve selected Chester as either your firm or insurance choice, you will be sent information regarding accommodation in the post in March 2017.

As soon as you receive the information in the post, you will be able to apply online.

When to Apply

Here are the key dates you need to know when applying for University owned and partnership accommodation:

Friday 31st March 2017 - Applications for accommodation OPEN

Monday 12th June 2017 – Applications for accommodation CLOSE*

*If we receive your application after the advertised deadline, we will endeavor to process your application, but applications received before the deadline will take priority.

What Happens Next

University Owned Accommodation

Following the application deadline, we will contact you to let you know the progress with your application. At this point, we should be able to confirm that a room has been reserved for you. Once your academic results are known and your place at the University has been confirmed, we will then advise you of the actual room you have been allocated. For the majority of students, this will be around A-Level Results Day on Thursday 17th August 2017.

Partnership Referral Accommodation

For those students who are referred to our accommodation partners the process will be slightly different. Once the closing date for applications has passed  your contact details will be sent directly to the accommodation providers. The selected accommodation provider will then contact you directly with an accommodation offer and send through the accommodation agreement for you to complete. Each provider will have different terms and conditions in place, so it is important to understand these before agreeing to a contract. The accommodation partners will contact all referred applicants even if you are still waiting for results to be confirmed. If, in the unfortunate event that you do not achieve the required conditions to take up your place at the University, the accommodation provider will release you from your contract without financial obligation or penalty.  Please note you will not be released from your contract, should you remain a student of the University of Chester and choose to live elsewhere.

All referral accommodation is provided by private providers ( Fresh Student Living or Host students) and therefore any accommodation contract is with them and not the University of Chester.

Allocation Policy

Our aim at the University of Chester is to help all first year undergraduates find suitable accommodation either in University residences, our partnership accommodation or in the private sector.

Although we can’t guarantee University accommodation or partnership accommodation to all our applicants, last year all applicants who wanted accommodation were offered a place in University accommodation or referred to partnership accommodation.  We expect the same to be the case this year.

When allocating the accommodation, we take the following criteria into account:

    • Applicants who have selected Chester as their firm choice will be given priority
    • Geographical location of the students’ home base; places are allocated to those who live the furthest from the University
    • Priority is given to applicants who have a registered disability and/or medical conditions. Applicants must make contact with and provide supporting evidence to the Disability Support Office.  Applicants will be promoted to do this when completing the accommodation application.
    • Students who apply after the deadline, gain entry through an insurance choice or via clearing are less likely to be allocated a place in University accommodation, as priority will go to University of Chester firm choice applicants.
