Religion and Faith

The Chaplaincy supports the spiritual life of the University and maintains the Chapels and multi-faith prayer rooms for private and public prayer and worship.
For learning about wisdom and instruction, for understanding words of insight, for gaining instruction in wise dealing,  righteousness, justice, and equity; to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and prudence to the young - let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill,  to understand a proverb and a figure,  the words of the wise and their riddles.

- Proverbs 1.1-6

You can explore the following through the Chaplaincy:

  • Support to those of all faiths seeking a faith community in the local area;
  • Christian teaching and personal development opportunities;
  • Retreats and social events;
  • Hospitality and pastoral support;
  • Spiritual mentoring for those of all faiths and none;
  • Opportunities to put faith in action by volunteering with our community partnerships.

The Chaplaincy is open to everyone, students and staff, regardless of religious beliefs. We honour and respect a wide range of experiences and welcome different view points in our discussions.

Faith in Action

As well as the worship opportunities and pastoral support that is provided by a church university, we promote involvement in the issues and life of those around us, both locally and worldwide. The Chaplaincy takes an active concern for global issues of poverty, justice, the environment and a wide variety of social action projects and programmes. Opportunities exist for students to volunteer in Fairtrade promotional campaigns, charitable fundraising projects, or local conservation work, as well as in a wide variety of projects which are important to students and staff.

The University also has its own charity, TWIN, which exists to raise money for our partner projects in Africa and Costa Rica and the Chester Chapel community particularly supports one of the TWIN partners, Congo Children Trust, an organisation helping street children in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Many other groups work in practical ways, independent of the Chaplaincy, but with our active support.

Whether you simply need help finding a suitable faith community, or you want to ask big questions about the meaning of life, or get involved in community projects, Chaplaincy is here to support you.
