Chester Centre for Research into Sport and Society (CCRSS)

Welcome to the Chester Centre for Research into Sport and Society (CCRSS). The CCRSS has a strong reputation for producing high quality teaching and research in the sociology of sport and exercise. The Centre is staffed by Dr. Daniel Bloyce, Professor Ken Green and Dr. Andy Smith, who are also members of the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences within which the CCRSS is housed.

The CCRSS is also especially proud to be able to count among its Visiting Professors Ivan Waddington and Ken Roberts who have made significant contributions to, amongst other things, the sociological understanding of leisure and sport, health and drugs.

All members of staff contribute to teaching on the MSc programme in the Sociology of Sport and Exercise, and some are involved in supervising PhD students at the University of Chester and elsewhere.

The CCRSS currently has 40 students on the MSc programme, including a number of International students, and it also has an active Erasmus exchange programme for staff and students with the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences based in Oslo.
