Dr Lesley E Cooke, Dean of Students

Lesley has a keen interest in the value and impact of student services on the student experience

A qualified teacher, and with BEd (Hons) from Hughes Hall, Cambridge University in 1971. This was followed, after a period of practical teaching, by the award of an MA (1973), PhD in Sports Psychology (1982) from Leeds University, accreditation as a sports psychologist, and Associate Fellowship of the British Psychological Society.  Having worked at Newcastle University and Newcastle Polytechnic, Lesley then joined Chester.  She was appointed as Lecturer in Sport Sciences and Psychology in 1983; Senior Lecturer 1988; Assistant Dean of Academic Studies in 1992; Director of Student Support & Guidance in 1994; and Dean of Students in 2005.

Currently, Lesley has a keen interest in the value and impact of student services on the student experience.  In 2008, she led the department of Student Support & Guidance to the award of Level 5 of Excellence (European Foundation for Quality Management); the first UK University to achieve this accolade.  .

She is currently carrying out research in the area of student development as citizens, with particular reference to the role of the Anglican University.
