Lynne Connolly

Senior Lecturer Photography

I am interested in the use of constructed imagery to explore meaning for the individual in relation to society and external events or factors. I enjoy a broad range of photography both analogue and digital including tinkering with processes such as 3D imagery and Wet Plate Collodion; the broad range of techniques allows for a diverse approach to using photography as a complex and layered art form.

Qualifications

  • FHEA. 2014
  • M.A Social Sciences, The Open University. 2009
  • M.A Fine Art Photography, University of Ulster. 1994
  • PGCE in Further and Higher Education, Greenwich University. 2001
  • B.A Hons Film, Video and Photographic Arts, Westminster University. 1998

Teaching

I teach on the B.A combined and single honours Photography degree across all levels. I have previously taught on and been Programme Leader for B.A Digital Photography, as well as teaching at several UK Universities and colleges. I am particularly interested in the relationship with theory to explore ideas and use of concepts to examine space, identity and belonging.

Research

I am currently undertaking a PhD researching the absence of representation of identity in post peace process Northern Ireland. This research explores the personal rather than media political representation of lives lived through an era of conflict and the resolution of this through photographic construction.
