Careers & Employability Conference – Academic Year 2009/10

In December 2009, the Department of Biological Sciences held its first careers & employability conference in collaboration with the Careers Department at Chester University.

The main aim and objective of the conference was to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to meet employers within their specialist fields of study, and to have the opportunity to listen to working professionals talking about their personal careers and potential careers pathways available within their current placement of work.

Numerous employer stalls were present at the event, which gave the students an opportunity to talk to professional organisations about various career opportunities. 

Representatives from a wide range of organisations including the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Society for Biology, Vetnet LNN, Coca-Cola UK, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Astra Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, VWR International Ltd, Chester Zoo, Frontier UK, Healthy Living Networks, Pro-Lab diagnostics, SRG Labstaff, NHS Association of Clinical Scientists and many more. 

As the Department of Biological Sciences offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the guest speaker's presentations were divided into three specialist areas, each comprising of three twenty minute talks:

Over 200 hundred students attended the careers and employability conference and the general feedback by both the students and the employers was positive and the overall experience was a massive success.
