Research

Graham's research interests include the quality of the environment and the safety or security of food or feeds and the connection between the environment and food products with the impact of human action and intervention. The development and evaluation of rapid diagnostic methods are of particular interest. International collaborations have included DfID and WHO funded projects with BALITVET Indonesia for pesticide residue detection and farmer education as a means of usage minimalisation. Diverse science communication activities have been developed (e.g. Science Festival) and delivered for the wider community to promote greater public understanding and awareness of the impact of scientific activities. This has also helped promote access and participation in training opportunities leading to careers in science.

Specialist communication activities have included the development of academic conferences and workshops. More recently, knowledge transfer and business engagement activities have been developed, primarily in the area of food science and technology, which has led to the establishment of a consortium of higher education institutions in the North West (Real Life Science Solutions).

A current ambition is the promotion of Chester as a recognised centre of expertise for food science and technology within the region.
