Dr Laurence Pearce

Laurence Pearce studied the four year integrated Biomedical Science course at Cardiff before registering with the Health Professions Council (HPC) as a Biomedical Scientist specialising in Haematology.

Overview

After working for a year in the diagnostic Haematology laboratory he returned to University to undertake a Masters degree in Biomedical Science. Laurence then trained as a Clinical Scientist within the haemato-oncology department at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, before moving to King’s College Hospital in London to work as a HPC registered Senior Clinical Scientist. For 5 years he specialised in the use of molecular biology techniques to monitor the kinetics of bone marrow transplantation before returning to Cardiff to study for his PhD. Laurence’s PhD thesis investigated blood malignancies, which was to specifically elucidate the role of CD38 in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL).
Laurence is licensed to use the professional titles Biomedical Scientist and Clinical Scientist and is also a Licentiate member of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
In his spare time Laurence enjoys running, playing football and playing the guitar. He is a lead guitarist for a local band (Milkwood).
