Senior Clinical Scientist, Pathology Quality Manager

Gareth has been employed in the Pathology Department at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital since 1974, initially as a "Junior A" Laboratory Technician, becoming Head Biomedical Scientist before re-training as a Clinical Biochemist.

As well as the lecture introducing Chemical Pathology in Chester, Gareth lectures on Quality Management to the BSc Biomedical Science course in Bangor and has presented to other professional organisations including the Wales Association of Urologists, Wales Postgraduate Pharmacy Group and the Association for Clinical Biochemistry. He was a member of the ACB Task Force reviewing the pre-analytical factors affecting the use of Prostate Specific Antigen in a national screening programme for prostate cancer.

He has varied research interests, his published work includes peer reviewed papers on prostate cancer, drink-spiking, diabetes, Alzheimer Disease and renal stone disease. Additionally, he has published basic science articles in the IBMS Gazette and an illustrated account of iron-age hill forts in the Clwydian range of hills in north Wales. 

A native of Wrexham, Gareth's outside interests include hill walking, skiing, making music and photography.
