Jane Weavers

Alumni Officer and Senior Lecturer

I came to Chester to take up a post as a Senior Lecturer in 2004. Prior to that I have lived and taught in Suffolk.

Overview

I developed a particular interest in working with the youngest children in school and worked in reception and nursery classes, developing my own interest and expertise in the teaching of this age range.

I have managed Foundation Stage Units including having the opportunity to open and establish a new nursery within a school.

Having also taken on other management roles within school including that of SENCO, and I also worked with the local authority on special needs and thinking skills projects.

My curriculum interests remain in the area of science and I also have a particular interest in how young children develop and learn and they way in which this can enhance effective learning.

Teaching

I have taught in a number of schools and worked with a wide age range of children, initially specialising in science and mathematics in middle school I became interested in teaching the younger children and moved into teaching in primary schools.

At Chester I work mainly on the Initial Teacher Training Programmes in the department, where I co-ordinate the teaching of science and also teach on specialist early years modules.

I co-ordinate the 4th year of the B.Ed programme, support students in the final year of the programme, and have the priviledge of seeing them embarking on what I believe a vital and valuable job. I also work on the Masters Continuing Professional Develpoment programme for teachers, leading the Early Professional Practice modules for teaching in the early stages of their career.

I strongly believe that a good education can offer children the best possible opportunities in life and enjoy working with trainees and teachers to enable them to provide this.
