After
sixteen years as a primary class teacher in Tameside, Manchester, I moved into
teacher training at Chester to teach on the B.Ed and PGCE programmes.
Overview
At the moment, I co-ordinate
non-core subjects in the primary ITT programmes and am subject leader for the
Global Dimensions specialism on the B.Ed programme.
I now
teach a range of subjects, including ICT,
History and Geography Education. At various times, I have been ICT and
research co-ordinator in the School of Education.
Research
My research interests include action
research, online learning, global learning, visual literacy and primary
geography. I am the author or co-author of over 30 articles, book chapters,
books and teaching resources, mainly on primary geography.
Most recently, I
have produced a series of contrasting locality packs with colleagues in
Cheshire County Council and edited a book about integrating the global
dimension into primary school subjects and themes - 'Get Global' is published
by Trentham Books and was written by a team of primary subject specialists in
the Faculty of Education & Children's Services and local teachers.
I am a member of the Higher Education
Academy and the Register of Research In Primary Geography. I am an active
member of the Geographical Association - in 2009, I am again a member of the
judging panel for the GA Awards.
