Overview

Andrew joined the University of Chester in 2008 having previously undertaken the role of ‘Director of Physical Education and School Sport' at a South Yorkshire secondary School. Andrew has taught physical education within a range of schools since graduating from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2001.

Teaching

Andrew's specialist areas include the applied theory of Coaching and Pedagogy and he teaches on the following undergraduate modules.

  • Introduction to Sports Coaching and Pedagogy (Year 1)
  • Sports Coaching and Pedagogy (Year 2)
  • Applied Sports Coaching and Pedagogy (Year 3)
  • Issues in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy (Year 3)
  • Research Methods in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy (Year 2)

Andrew also supervises dissertation students specialising in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy.

Research

Research interests

  • The inclusion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs in PE and sport
  • Figurational Sociology and its application to PE and school sport
  • Issues within physical education and PE policy
