Our friend and colleague, Dr John Doran, sadly passed away after a short illness at the end of October 2012. John’s standing within the academy has been recognised both home and abroad: the M6 North West Seminar of Medieval Historians of which John served as co-convenor has established an annual prize in his name as has the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA.
In a mark of recognition and memory of John’s outstanding contribution both as a tutor and scholar to the Department of History and Archaeology here at Chester, the University has established the John Doran Memorial Scholarship for a MPhil/PhD degree award. The scholarship will cover tuition fees as well as pay an annual maintenance stipend. The first scholarship will be awarded for the academic year 2013/14 and further details will be advertised in due course.
