Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a master’s degree in power systems and automation, and a PhD degree in advanced control of power systems. Have many years of research and education, and industrial experience in electrical power engineering in China and UK including practical experience in power station, power dispatching and bureau, and universities in China and UK.

Research

Nowadays power systems are experiencing significant changes with more and more renewable energy sources being connected to the power systems, which increases the diversity of power generators and makes our homes and businesses be powered by different energy sources and technologies. The future power grid will have to evolve and operate to cope with many challenges in power generation, transmission and end use, such as intermittent renewable generation, demand side managements in power market, distributed generation, transmission and end use

There are also many challenges on the pathway of the transition from fossil fuel based centralised generation system to the future where a  high percentage of decentralised, distributed generation with fluctuating clean energy sources, such as wind and solar. These challenges include: realising a reliable, resilient, secure, smart and cost-effective power system with high quality and high efficiency from generation to end-use to accommodate the large share of clean energy, capable of meeting all clean energy demands and capacity requirements.

My research interests cover the following topics:

  • Power systems operation and control,
  • Power electronic converter topology, control strategy and control systems,
  • Power electronics applications in power systems for efficient operation, power quality, reliability and stability,
  • Smart grid technologies such as Microgrids and standalone power system,
  • Advanced controllers based on microcontrollers and FPGAs
