In
partnership with the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the
University of Chester, the Light Project offers this training as a foundation
degree course in Community Evangelism.
Campus
Chester campus
Course
FdA
Length
2 Years Full-time
Start dates
Throughout the year
It is a full-time programme, usually
taken over two calendar years. The study is academically challenging and faith
affirming.
The Light Project is located in premises in
Chester. The facilities of the Chester campus nearby are also available for
students on the programme. You also learn in your church placements.
Why study this course?
Students
of the Light Project need sponsorship from the participating churches who will
apply confessional criteria for the purposes of placement and employment. They
come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some are mature students,
others have just finished A levels. Some are interested in ordained ministries.
Features
The
mission of the Light Project is "to actively demonstrate the Christian message
in a relevant way, and to equip others to do the same". It seeks to train
effective community evangelists who combine community work and evangelistic
work.
You apply your study into the work place as you learn: successful
students will leave not only with a foundation degree, but also with two years
experience working both individually and as a team member in community work and
evangelism.
You develop an awareness of the implications of your actions on
individuals, and the community, through reflection on practice, and the
character of your own ministry.
You can become confident in your own ability to
interpret and apply the Gospel message, and in the impact it can and does have
on particular communities.
We will consider
applications from candidates who hold one of the following qualifications:
UCAS:
GCE A Levels:
GCE and VCE A/AS Levels
GNVQ
Advanced GNVQ
BTEC:
BTEC National Diploma/Certificate
Irish/Scottish:
International Baccalaureate:
QAA:
QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma,
Open College Units or Open University Credits and other non-standard
qualifications
Extra Information:
Where an applicant
does not have the formal admissions requirements in certificated form, their
competencies can be established or developed in a number of different ways.
A student's
potential for benefitting from the programme will be assessed through
interview.
Placement and
professional work in Christian churches requires that the interview includes an
exploration of their current ministerial context, and that references affirming
suitability of character and ministry are also required.
Due
to the nature of work based learning, it is necessary that students complete
and successfully pass a Criminal Records Bureau enhanced disclosure check, as
contact with children is certain in the church context.
