The Department
of Pre-Registration Nursing hosts the pre-registration Nursing Programme which
consists of a one year Common Foundation Programme and two year branch
programmes in Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disability Nursing
and Children's Health Nursing.
Run over five educational campuses (Chester, Warrington, Leighton Hospital, Clatterbridge General Hospital and Bache Hall), this programme leads to registration as a nurse as well as the academic award of either a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or a Diploma in Higher Education.
Departmental staff teach across four educational sites and contribute also to the broader remit of the Faculty teaching on post-registration and postgraduate modules. The departmental ethos is one of continual review and improvement ensuring that its provision is up to date and addresses any changes occurring in the health care field.
Academic Programme
In February 2006, health care programmes at the University of Chester
were commended in all three areas assessed in a major review undertaken
by the QAA.
Then, in September 2007, the Pre-Registration Nursing
Programme was revalidated, making a good programme even better, with
consolidated assessment periods and a summer break in keeping with
the expectations of university students.
The programme is interesting,
dynamic and innovative and students on it are well supported by
departmental staff, staff from other faculty departments and various
support departments from the wider university.
