Teaching is delivered at four educational sites (Riverside Campus in Chester, Leighton in Crewe, Warrington Campus and Wirral in Clatterbridge). Practice learning will be undertaken by individual students throughout the Cheshire and Merseyside region. Practice learning opportunities will be provided in a variety of health care environments including NHS Trusts, independent sector and social care sector. The programme is also provided working in a collaborative partnership with the Isle of Man DHSS Education and Training Centre. This programme leads to registration as a nurse as well as the academic award of either a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree or a Diploma in Higher Education. The last applications for the Diploma in Higher Education will be welcomed up to and including March 2012. From September 2012 the programme will be all degree.
The department ethos is one of continual review and improvement ensuring that its provision is up to date and addresses any changes occurring in the health care field.
Academic Programme
In February 2006, health care programmes at the University of Chester were commended in all three areas assessed in a major review undertaken by the QAA.
Then, in September 2007, the Pre-Registration Nursing Programme was revalidated, making a good programme even better, with consolidated assessment periods and a summer break in keeping with the expectations of university students.
The programme is interesting, dynamic and innovative and students on it are well supported by department staff, staff from other faculty departments and various support departments from the wider university.
