This module has been designed to explore key contemporary issues in the assessment and evaluation of educational activities across a variety of settings.

The aims of the module are to:

  • Enable you to critically review the key issues underpinning the selection, development and use of strategies for assessment and evaluation within the context of professional and interprofessional education.
  • Provide you with the knowledge and skills to rigorously evaluate programmes of study.


By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Deconstruct key concepts and theories underpinning the assessment and evaluation of learning within professional and interprofessional education contexts.
  • Justify the implementation of assessment frameworks and models to meet the needs of diverse student groups, and of professional practice.
  • Lead assessment processes and support other professionals and service users to adopt appropriate strategies to assess learning.
  • Critically reflect on supporting colleagues within the community of practice, to provide constructive feedback and to action plan for failing students.
  • Critically reflect on own practice with reference to the UK Professional Standards Framework in the assessment and evaluation of learning alongside an action plan to enhance practice.
  • Critically evaluate the processes for institutional, external and professional body quality assurance and enhancement.
