Evidence Based Practice in Health and Social Care

This module will bring into sharp focus the emphasis on evidence-based practice and research awareness and the use of which characterises professional practice; it will also develop your basic research skills and integrate your research knowledge with current health service disciplines in relation to your area of practice/branch.

The aims of the module are to:

  • Enable you to develop knowledge and skills in evaluating perspectives on health and social care.
  • Provide you with the skills to critically appraise evidence.
  • Develop your repertoire of research skills.


By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Consider the relationship between research, evidence-based practice, clinical governance, quality assurance and audit, and apply theory to practice in your area of practice.
  • Engage with and evaluate the evidence base which underpins safe practice in relation to chosen branch/area of practice.
  • Explore and contribute to the application of a range of evidence-based interventions to support patients and clients, and which optimise their health and well-being.
  • Discuss and demonstrate the safe application of the skills required to meet the needs of patients and clients within the current sphere of practice.
