Palliative and End of Life Care
Palliative and End of Life Care aims to promote quality of life for those with life-limiting illness and their families across a range of health, social and home care settings. Through studying this module and acquiring the requisite knowledge and skills, health professionals can apply knowledge and understanding of palliative and end-of-life care in their practice.

The aims of the module are to:
- Explore the art and science of palliative care and its interface with other disciplines to effect high-quality care with a sound evidence base.
- Apply the principles and practice of palliative care specific to your own client group.
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
- Critically analyse the concept of palliative care and its role in the management of people with life-limiting illness.
Contextualise contemporary palliative care in meeting the needs of individuals and their carers. - Critically evaluate how the psycho-social effects of diagnosis and/or treatment options for patients and carers influence practice.
- Critically appraise the evidence base of a range of approaches to symptom management and their application in practice.
- Critically explore potential ethico-legal issues affecting people with life-limiting illness and their application to practice.
- Explore and apply communication strategies to effectively manage a therapeutic environment in palliative care.
- With reference to practice, evaluate the role of the multiprofessional team in palliative care.
