Country-specific entry requirements and information for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants.

Please note that these are general entry requirements. Some courses may have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work or previous study of a particular subject. Some courses, for example those in the faculty of Health and Social Care or MSc Marketing Communications and Public Relations, may require a higher level of English.


Undergraduate (Bachelor's degree)

Academic Requirements

For undergraduate entry, besides A-Levels (200-260 UCAS points depending on the subject) and IB (minimum 24 points), the University of Chester accepts a range of other qualifications commonly studied by Malaysian students including STPM, SAM, MICSS-UEC (minimum 15 points from up to 6 subjects including at least 2 subjects at B3/B4/B5/B6 level), Malaysian Polytechnic Certificate and Diploma.

If you have completed a 2 year certificate or diploma at a local college you may be considered for admission into second/third year of our undergraduate programmes in some subjects. English Lanaguage Requirements

  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)  with scores of at least 51 in all 4 components
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in each band)
  • TOEFL (internet) with score of 78: listening 21, reading 22, speaking 23, writing 21 in each section

 

Postgraduate (Master's degree)

Academic Requirements

For postgraduate entry, the University of Chester accepts a Bachelor degree with a minimum of second class or GPA around 2.5. In some cases Advanced Diploma holders may be accepted into our Masters programmes.

MBA

The MBA programme requires a minimum of 2 years work experience in a business related position, normally at supervisory level. For those with limited work experience it is possible to enter the programme after completing an intensive two week Bridging Programme at the University of Chester and then joining a dedicated cohort. English Language requirements

  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)  with overall score of 57 and no less than 51 in any component
  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each band)
  • TOEFL IBT with an overall score of 85 and the following minimum scores in the components: listening 21, reading 22, speaking 23, writing 21

Postgraduate (Research degrees)

Academic Requirements

To apply for an MPhil or PhD you should have the equivalent of an upper second class British Bachelor degree (i.e. 2.1 or a 1st) in a subject relevant to that which you wish to study. If you have a lower second class degree (2.2) then you will also be required to have the equivalent of a British Master’s degree.   • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) Postgraduate 58 and no less than 51 in any component
  • IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each band)
  • TOEFL 85 (internet) and the following minimum scores in the components: listening 21, reading 22, speaking 23, writing 21
