Located in the heart of the UK, not far from Liverpool and Manchester, it attracts over 8 million visitors a year. The city, which is one of the best preserved walled cities in Europe, dates back to Roman times.
But Chester is not all about past. It is also a 21st century vibrant city with a host of clubs, pubs, bars and restaurants. There is also a thriving arts scene including theatre and live music. Chester is known as a city of festivals and every year students can enjoy the Summer Music Festival, Chester Rocks Festival, the Literature Festival, the International Film Festival, Chestival (34 days and nights of various events) and the Food and Drink Festival to name a few.
The City of Chester is ideally placed for anyone interested in sport. If you like to watch live sport then you can choose from the high-flying Cheshire Jets basketball team, the spectacular Chester Races (the oldest racecourse still in use in England!) or Chester FC.
If getting actively involved is more your thing, then you could be sailing or canoeing on the River Dee or taking part in the annual marathon, half marathon or triathlon events.
Chester is an ideal place to get out on your bike. The city is one of a handful of designed "cycling cities" meaning the use of bikes is positively encouraged - ideal for students!
Chester has long been a favoured location for some of the international market’s biggest players. Companies such as Airbus, Bank of America, HBOS, Bristol Myers Squibb and Marks & Spencer all have large scale, long-term operations based in the immediate area along with a myriad of local businesses and SMEs.The University has built strong links with these organisations and the wider business community. This both enhances the relevance of our degrees and helps our students to find professional work-based placements.
