Warrington is on the banks of a river, and at a river crossing - so since time immemorial, the Mersey has caused trade, travellers, new ideas and new attitudes to flow through Warrington. It was founded by the Saxons in the 8th century and today it is the largest town in Cheshire and it is famous for ‘firsts’- from building Britain’s first canal to opening the country’s first public library.

From an award winning market offering the best of local produce to the Golden Square shopping center, Warrington has lots of different shopping experiences available to residents and visitors alike. But if that is not enough- the lively cities of Manchester and Liverpool are also on our doorstep. Manchester is only 16 minutes from Warrington by train and Liverpool is under half an hour away.  The famous Trafford Centre (280 shops, 60 restaurants & bars, cinema and leisure facilities) is only 15 minute drive from the University campus.

Warrington is home to Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club- winners of the 2010 Challenge Cup. The Wolves players are an everyday sight on campus as they train here, and students are able to take advantage of cheap match tickets through the Students’ Union. In addition, Warrington was the birthplace of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, more popularly known as Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'.

The Warrington campus is a 20-minute drive from Media City at Salford Keys- the home for the BBC in the North and national hub for developments in Media industries.

A number of festivals, carnivals, and walking days are held annually in the Warrington area.
