The ERDF Knowledge Action Network Project (KAN) is a recently ERDF approved initiative. The Project is expected to operate for a period of thirty-six months between 1st March 2012 to 1st March 2015. It is comprised of a Manchester Metropolitan University led consortium involving three universities; Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Chester and The University of Cumbria. The KAN Project’s purpose is to provide assistance to regional SMEs in order to facilitate and support the generation of jobs and employment.
The objective is to provide assistance to regional SMEs in order to facilitate and support the generation of jobs and employment.
This project is designed to support regional SMEs in unlocking their innovation capacity. It will establish a network of small businesses across sectors in order to promote new relationships, innovation capacity and new connections between higher education and industry in the North West.
Over the three years of the project, university members of the consortium will recruit SMEs and work closely with them in order to uncover innovation challenges, provide coaching and arrange expert speakers in relation to specifically identified issue areas.
Key to the KAN are the cross-sector Knowledge Action Groups, which will enable business leaders to support each other across areas of shared concern and also create lasting relationships which will become self-sustaining. Futhermore the project will assist participant within innovation support services indicating the most relevant opportunities available.
