The Department of Modern Languages scored an impressive 92% overall satisfaction rating in the National Student Survey 2011.

The Modern Languages Department here at Chester offers a range of stimulating courses to enable students to achieve their potential in languages in a supportive learning environment.

The Department is well equipped, with two language laboratories featuring the latest language-learning technology. 

 

What is the department like?

You will find a friendly and supportive atmosphere, which is also dynamic and innovative.  Our main aims are to enable our students to develop their language skills to a high level and to increase their knowledge of the countries in which their chosen languages are spoken. 

There is an international flavour with many students from continental Europe here, mostly on exchange programmes.

We have established excellent links in Continental Europe for study and work-based learning placements.  Languages students get two opportunities for placements abroad.

Academic Programme

The department offers a range of courses including a BA Modern Languages, French, German and Spanish. The department also offers a part-time taught masters in European Languages and Cultures.
