Learner of the Year 2008

We are pleased to announce that this award for 2008 was presented for outstanding achievements to Karen Evans.

Karen first came to the Chester Centre in August 2007, starting on the Switch On beginners level IT course. Since then, she has completed over 27 courses and achieved her ECDL qualification. She has also gained level 2 certificates in both Adult Literacy and Numeracy.

Karen is a keen and hard working individual, who has always shown great commitment to learning. As a result of her achievements to date, her determination and her enthusiastic attitude, Centre staff felt that she really deserved the title of 'Learner of the Year'.

Karen was presented with her award by Connie Hancock (Centre Manager) at our learners' Christmas Skills Celebration event which took place within the Centre on Thursday 11th December 2008.

Karen was very pleased with her award and thanked all of the Centre staff for their help throughout her learning journey. Karen is looking forward to continuing learning in 2009, starting with ECDL Advanced in Word Processing.

Following the announcement of our Learner of the Year accolade, Karen has received more good news. She has been offered and has accepted a job in the Learning Resources department at University of Chester.

Learner of the Year 2007

We are pleased to announce that this award for 2007 was presented for outstanding achievements to Jane Mingins.

Jane has been attending The Learning and Enterprise Centre since October 2003 and she has completed a wide variety of courses within this time. She is a very enthusiastic and determined learner, who attends the Centre on a weekly basis, and she has shown commitment and dedication to improving her skills.

Jane has achieved some fantastic results this year as she has completed a number of courses from our Skills for Life portfolio, which have resulted in her sitting and passing her adult Certificate in Literacy at Level 1. Jane has been working closely with Tracy Armstead and Tracy commented that "Jane is a lovely lady, a joy to teach and she is an inspiration to others".

Jane was presented with her award by Tracy Armstead (Online Learning Assistant) at our learners' Christmas Skills Celebration event which took place within the Centre on Friday 7th December 2007. Jane was extremely shocked, yet pleased, to receive the award and she is looking forward to continuing her learning in 2008 at The Learning and Enterprise Centre.

Learner of the Year 2006

We are pleased to announce that this award for 2006 was presented for outstanding achievements to Sandra Reynolds.

Sandra has been attending The Learning and Enterprise Centre since March 2006 and has completed a wide variety of courses within this time. She is a very keen learner who attends the Centre daily, showing very high levels of commitment to improving her skills.

Sandra has accomplished some fantastic achievements this year. She has completed several Literacy courses and has passed the Adult Certificate in Literacy at Level 1. She has spent a great deal of time studying IT, leading her to achieve the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification. Sandra has also completed a course introducing her to bookkeeping utilising Sage Line 50.

Sandra was presented with her award by Connie Hancock (Centre Manager) at our learners' Christmas event which took place within the Centre on Monday 18th December 2006. Sandra is looking forward to continuing her learning in 2007 by aiming to complete a Numeracy qualification.

Learner of the Year 2005 

We are pleased to announce, that the Learner of the Year award for 2005 was presented for outstanding achievements to Jean Flynn.

Jean has been attending the Learning and Enterprise Centre since April 2005 (with her three sisters in tow) and since then she has been concentrating on brushing up on her English skills. Having completed a number of courses, Jean recently sat and achieved her Adult Certificate in Literacy at Level 1 and she plans to work towards her Level 2 Certificate during 2006.

Jean was presented with her award by Connie Hancock (Centre Manager) at our learners' Christmas event which took place within the Centre itself on Thursday 15th December 2005. The presentation of this award concluded a busy, yet exciting week for Jean as she achieved her Adult Certificate in Literacy at Level 1, she retired from her job having worked there for approximately fourteen years and she also celebrated her 65th Birthday.

Learner of the Year 2004 

The first 'Learner of the Year' was presented for outstanding achievements to Doris Davies for 2004.

Doris collected the first annual 'Learner of the Year' award, which Connie Hancock presented to her at our learners' Christmas party. She has completed a number of courses at the Learning and Enterprise Centre, including Switch On, Surf Direct, IT1 Word Processing, IT1 Electronic Communication, IT1 Spreadsheets and IT1 Using your Computer. Doris still frequents the Learning and Enterprise Centre to continue with her learning and has recently returned from a holiday in The States, which she booked utilising her new found skills!
