Students are very successful in their studies at Chester, probably because
of the excellent facilities available and the first class working relationships
that can be developed in a small department. Our graduates have a very high
employment rate.
In research, members of the department are active across the general area of
functional differential equations which have applications in many areas. One
area of particular interest is in the mathematical modelling of the immune
system and we have continued joint work with our former Leverhulme
International Professor on this project.
We also have projects currently
underway relating to delay differential equations, fractional differential
equations, integral equations, mixed type (forward-backward) functional
differential equations, partial differential equations and integro-differential
equations.
A major part of our work is based on excellent long-standing co-operations
with mathematicians in other groups (within the UK and overseas) and we are always
happy to hear from new potential collaborators (or, indeed, from potential
students). Every year we have a programme of visits and visitors and longer
term fellowships (supported by external grants) are possible too.
For potential
PhD students from outside the European Union we are happy to support
applications for the prestigious ORS awards, subject to candidates of
sufficient merit coming forward.
We enjoy working in Chester's
Mathematics Department and hope very much that we might be able to welcome you
either as a student or as a fellow researcher at some time in the near future.
