The Department of English will help you in all kinds of different ways to ensure that you are always achieving your best. The Royal Literary Fellow screenwriter Helen Farrall is in residence and available for one-to-one tutorials to help all our students of Creative Writing and English (Literature and Language), at all levels with their writing skills. Her credits include Emmerdale, Crossroads, Dream Team, Bad Girls, Grange Hill and Byker Grove. Last year the RLF Fellow was crime writer Margaret Murphy. With such expertise at hand helping you to polish your writing you can always submit work with confidence.

‘As the Royal Literary Fellow my job is to help students to fulfil their potential by giving tips to improve their writing and showing them how to express themselves clearly and confidently on the page.’ (Helen Farrall)

‘The opportunity to speak with someone and to look over my work with fresh eyes was extremely valuable, as it allows me to talk through my ideas and figure out how to put them on paper. It also provides an opportunity for someone to point out those silly mistakes that everyone makes in their writing so as you can change it before finally submitting your work to be marked’. (Lauren Murphy – Level 6 Student)
