Car Boot Sales - Lego

Robert Elsmore is a second-year student of Creative Writing and English.

It begs on the corner stall

dressed in last year’s rags.

With wounds bandaged in tape

its flaps flail in the wind

like an orphan’s pleading hands.

The Pharaoh’s pyramid,

its contents in pieces;

shards of a childhood.

A pound sterling will buy you

its secrets.

Take it home.

Unravel its bandages,

its scattered parts;

as you pour, memories

fall like bricks to the floor,

its instructions written in hieroglyph.

A pound sterling buys you

a labyrinth with corners that

twist like a Rubix cube.
