Protection

Ben Eaton is in the second year of his Creative Writing and English degree.

So I guess

we all need to wear bullet-proof

vests if we go out.

Economise the seconds it takes

to reach the shop,

duck, weave, bob, stop for nothing.

People should wear

plate armour after seven and be tucked into

lead-lined bunkers by eleven.

Avoid the chippy, the Co-Op,

the alleyway by One Stop,

the multi-storey car park

that’s a beehive of hoods and blades

in the dark.

Don’t leave the house with

cash or cards.

Anything that glitters can be sold

for pennies to Cash

for Gold.
