Creating Sustainable Tourism Destinations

The Net4Ps+ Chester Seminar

This webpage provides information and presentations on the Creating Sustainable Tourism Destinations weekend seminar that was held at the Chester Business School, University of Chester on 7th-9th July 2012

Delegates from six European countries took part in the event examining how tourism can develop in ways that will provide important economic benefits but minimise social problems and environmental harm.

University of Chester Tourism Lecturer Colin Potts said, "Tourism's international importance has been highlighted by the economic crisis currently facing many countries, as at a time when many global industries are in decline it is continuing to grow fast. However without responsible management tourism can do irreparable damage to places and cultures".

Net4Ps+ is an EU funded sustainable tourism project between Chester, its twin towns of Loerrach, Senigallia and Sens and associate cities examining good practice in sustainable tourism from practitioner and University perspectives. The Chester partnership is led by the city's International Links Association and involves Cheshire West & Chester Council and Marketing Cheshire as wel as the University. The project is supported by the EU's Education, Audio-visual and Culture Executive Agency under its Europe for Citizens Programme 2007-2012.
