Lord Anthony Giddens speaks on The Politics of Climate Change at the University of Chester.

A world-renowned sociologist has spoken about the tough challenges posed by global warming in a guest lecture at the University of Chester.

Lord Anthony Giddens, a Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics, delivered his lecture ‘The Politics of Climate Change’ to a full capacity audience.Lord Giddens

Lord Giddens’ advice regarding social and political issues has been sought by political leaders all over the world.

He also contributed to policy debates in Asia, Latin America, Australia, the US and Europe and his latest book, The Politics of Climate Change, has been described by former American President Bill Clinton, as “a landmark study in the struggle to contain climate change, the greatest challenge of our era. I urge everyone to read it.”

Dr Daniel Bloyce, Deputy Head of the Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University, said: “The Chester Centre for Research into Sport and Society (CCRSS) was delighted to welcome Lord Anthony Giddens to the University and host the first guest lecture of the academic year.

“It was a huge event for the Centre and a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to hear from a leading modern sociologist talking on one of the key topics of our times.”
