A new networking initiative for business professionals has been launched at a special event hosted by the University of Chester.

The evening was a resounding success and offered stimulating and practically focused discussions and exchanges on sustainability. A number of action points surfaced which were informed by highly pertinent reflections from audience participants.

The Cheshire Professional Institutes Network (Cheshire PIN) which has been established by the University, has the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) as its founding professional bodies.

This first event was organised by the CIM and Business in the Community, as the North West region’s contribution to Responsible Business Week.

The event addressed issues surrounding ‘Leadership for Success in a Changing World – taking the sustainability challenge’. Speakers, who included Gudrun Cartwright from Business in the Community and Rich Hall of PricewaterhouseCoopers, talked about the pressures that were mounting on the world’s resources with the rise in global population, and the need for organisations to review their strategies.

Professor Peter Stokes, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning (B.E.L.L) from the University of Chester, also spoke at the event, giving a challenging presentation about ‘Thinking about Sustainability as Behaviour – Micro-movements and Grey Zones’.

Speaking after the event, Professor Stokes added: “The evening was a resounding success and offered stimulating and practically focused discussions and exchanges on sustainability. A number of action points surfaced which were informed by highly pertinent reflections from audience participants.”

The next event for the Cheshire Professional Institutes Network will take place at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester, on May 15, 2013. Details may be found by visiting
