Business student has a heart for local charity

A University of Chester student with a passion for business has joined forces with a local charity to help raise awareness of its work, amongst his peers.

Michael WilliamsMichael Williams, 20, from Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port, approached the committee of Chester Heart Support Group, looking for a way to use his skills and experience in business and enterprise for the benefit of others.

A second year undergraduate studying Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Michael (pictured left) is also the Managing Director of his own clothing company, MD Supplies, and President of the University’s Student Enterprise Society.

He set up his first company at the age of 16 and won the Cheshire Business Leaders Award for the Young Entrepreneur in March this year.

Michael said: “I really wanted to give something back to Chester and its residents so becoming involved in a charity seemed like a great idea. Heart problems have been highlighted in the press a lot over the last couple of years and Chester Heart Support Group does so much work in the community, helping those who’ve suffered from heart problems, so it’s a fantastic cause.

“The group has welcomed me with open arms, and the committee and all of its members have made me feel right at home since our first meeting. I’m looking forward to being part of the organisation.”

Ernie Cowell, Chairman of Chester Heart Support Group, (pictured above with Liz Kevan, Vice-Chair) said: “The charity has about 350 members who have at some point in their lives suffered from heart troubles. There are still however, more than 9,000 people in the Chester area that we are yet to reach.

“We hope that with Michael joining our committee we can look at ways to get in touch with these people to let them know about the brilliant things we do”.

Michael will advise the committee on matters relating to marketing and reaching out to a younger audience.
