Creative Writing students enjoy an open-mic night

There was a pleasing gathering of students and staff at the latest open-mic night organised by the Department of English and the student editors of Pandora's Box.

Established in 2006, these regular events have become a popular and well-established part of the social calendar, providing students with a chance to enjoy and share a range of creative writing.

Students and staff come together in an informal and supportive atmosphere to read, listen and have a chat and a drink.

Some read their original poems or stories; others read the work of a favourite author; others simply enjoy listening. As well as showcasing a fantastic range of literature, these are always great social events.

In addition to readings, there is always an impromptu poetry competition and prizes for the best performers of the evening.

In the cosy environment of the Department's lecture theatre, these evenings exemplify the friendliness and sense of community that make the Department so special.
