Thursday 23 January saw the premiere screening of a new DVD produced by the staff and students of the University of Chester’s Media Department at the Pyramids Art Centre in Warrington. Local dignitaries took part in the event, which included speakers Warrington Borough Council, as well as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The DVD – entitled Warrington’s World Cup – tells the story of the town’s preparations to co-host the Rugby League World Cup in November 2013, and in particular to host the visit of the Samoan national rugby league team, who trained at the University’s Warrington campus.

The documentary film features 500 people dancing in the streets of Warrington, the performance of the traditional Haka dance by the Samoan team and by local schoolchildren, a burst of street poetry and even the repatriation of a Maori head.
