Media City

Journalism students had a chance to imagine a future in broadcasting when they toured the BBC’s MediaCity complex at Salford Quays on Saturday on 25 January 2014.

The group of students, from Chester and Warrington campuses, had an opportunity to present the news from the Breakfast sofa, deliver a television weather forecast and inhabit the Radio 6 studio that normally hosts the Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie Show on 6 Music.

They also sampled a sound stage from where Radio 4’s Afternoon Drama is recorded and watched the sports news being prepared. If that was not enough, they also met a static but still menacing Dalek.

Department of Media lecturer Vera Slavtcheva-Petkova, who organised the visit, said: “The department has an excellent record in terms of graduates going on to gain jobs at the BBC. I’m sure the tour will prove an inspiration for some of our current students to emulate them.”
