North West Media Showcase

Posted on 5th June 2014

The University of Chester's annual Media Showcase took place on 4 June 2014 at the North West Media Centre on our Warrington campus.

More than 150 people attended the show's opening night, including students and their families, lecturers and industry guests.

The show featured work from first, second and third year Media Department students in advertising, journalism, film, music, photography, radio and television.

The show displayed images produced by BA Advertising, BA Digital Photography, BA Journalism and BA Sports Journalism students, and played music produced by students of BA Commercial Music Production. There was a showreel of films made by BA Television Production students, and students from BA Radio Production broadcast a live programme from the show on the Department's radio station. The work of BA Media Studies and BA Film Studies students was also recognized in the brochure which accompanied the event. A pdf of the brochure can be downloaded here.

The show also included an awards ceremony which honoured the contributions made to the Department by students from all levels and programmes.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Media Brendan O'Sullivan described the event as "a great show with a great atmosphere." Head of Media Alec Charles added: "The evening was a fitting celebration of the great work produced by our students. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to a wonderful night."

Kate Irving, the University's Director of Learning and Teaching, described it as a "fantastic show - most inspiring." Student Union Vice President Dan Lee said it was a "fantastic event" showcasing "amazing work" and added that Media Department staff should be commended for "their ongoing support and guidance."

The Media Department's own students were also impressed. Danny Tang said the evening was "full of excitement, good humour and respect" and was "truly outstanding and inspirational." Ryan Molloy described the event as "awesome" and award winner Jamie Davies called it the "best night ever."

The following evening also saw the launch of our first ever annual journalism exhibition at our Kingsway site in Chester - where again students and their families, staff and guests came together to celebrate the great work produced by our first, second and third year students this year. So now we're looking forward to even bigger and better end-of-year events for summer 2015! We hope you'll join us!
