Kudos to Media graduates!

Thursday 19 March 2015 was a brilliant day for two of our graduates.

Michelle Ponting, a graduate of our programme in Radio Production, won the award for Best Interview at the IRN News Awards for 'A Wheel Manchester Gangster' on Key 103, an interview a well-known Manchester gangster who climbed the Big Wheel in Manchester city centre in an apparent act of protest against plans to recall him to prison.

The IRN Awards reported: "The judging panel thought it was an utterly compelling listen that was both funny and full of local detail."

The awards ceremony - which celebrates the work of journalists in commercial radio - was held at the Century Club in London and was organized by IRN in association with Sky News.

Michelle - who teaches in our department on top of her job at Key 103 - was also one of our two graduates nominated for O2 Media Awards last autumn.

Meanwhile also on 19 March Liz Ahye - a successful graduate of our programme in Commercial Music Production - was named by the popular and influential magazine Music Week as one of its prestigious '30 Under 30' - a list of young music executives who have already 'achieved great things' and who 'look set for even brighter futures.'

Music Week reported: "As label manager for Warner Music's ADA, Ahye currently works with a wide selection of artists including Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and newcomers Darlia, Gavin James, The Mispers and Dolomite Minor. After earning a first class BA Hons degree in music production, Ahye embarked on a work experience placement at Metropolis Studios, where she was quickly promoted to the position of product manager."

The University of Chester's Head of Media Dr Alec Charles said: "The success of these graduates represents very well-deserved recognition for two enormously talented individuals. Congratulations to both on their utter brilliance! I think it's also a real tribute to all our students and to our teaching teams that so many of our students continue to be so successful in the media industries."
