Linda de Cossart has recently completed five years as Director of Medical Education at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where she had been a Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon for twenty-two years and where she is now Emeritus Consultant. She was Associate Postgraduate Dean and Programme Director for Surgery in Mersey Deanery and has had a career long commitment to Postgraduate Medical Education. She works in collaboration with Professor Della Fish and with her has instituted an MA in Education for Postgraduate Medical Practice at the University of Chester where she is an Honorary Professor. With Della she has published Cultivating a Thinking Surgeon in 2005; Developing the Wise Doctor in July 2007, and Reflection for Medical Appraisal, 2013. As co-director of Ed4medprac Ltd she continues to be an active writer and educator. She is former vice-president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours in 2010 for services to medicine and healthcare.

The University’s Faculty of Health and Social Care (FHSC) Historical Society aims to unite individuals with an interest in medicine, nursing, midwifery and social work across the University and the wider community. The Society meets regularly for a range of talks and discussion and anyone with an interest in health and social care or social history is welcome to attend.
