Mission Statement For Our Medical School

The Institute of Medicine has consulted with doctors in Cheshire and Shropshire and held discussions with stakeholders. Based on these views we have written a mission statement for the planned Medical School. The Mission Statement is deliberately concise, and focusses on our aspirations for new doctors in Cheshire and Shropshire.

‘We aspire to educate doctors who are ethical and proficient medical practitioners; are good communicators and well equipped to serve the community. Our doctors will be professional and compassionate with the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

‘Our doctors will be educated through a fully integrated, evidence-based curriculum.

‘Our doctors will engage fully with society and have enquiring minds that will expand and develop future medical knowledge and practice.’

As part of our commitment to ethical practice will also request our doctors take the following version of the Hippocratic Oath:

"Now being admitted to the profession of medicine,

I solemnly pledge to consecrate my life to the service

of humanity.

I will give respect and gratitude to my deserving

teachers. I will practice medicine with conscience and

dignity. The health and life of my patient will be my

first consideration. I will hold in confidence all my

patient confides in me. I will maintain the honour and

the noble traditions of the medical profession.

My colleagues will be as my brothers and sisters. I will not

permit considerations of race, religion, nationality, party

politics or social standing to intervene between my duty

and my patient.

I will maintain the utmost respect for human life. Even under threat I

will not use my knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity.

These promises I make freely and upon my honour."
