The aim of this module is to develop your skills and knowledge in order to design and develop contemporary educational activities in a variety of settings.

The aims of the module are to:

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of appropriately focused programmes of professional education.
  • Enable you to actively participate in curriculum development.           
  • Integrate dynamic practice with innovative educational and curriculum strategies.


By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • Justify the application of educational philosophies and curriculum models to develop a professional programme.
  • Deconstruct and synthesise the local, national and international drivers impacting upon curriculum development.
  • Critically evaluate and apply educational theories and pedagogical research to develop a programme to enhance professional practice.
  • Critically reflect upon the opportunities and challenges when developing evidence-based curricula within professional and interprofessional contexts. This should make reference to the UK Professional Standards Framework). 
  • Critically reflect upon leading innovations in curriculum design and planning.
  • Critically appraise the quality assurance and enhancement processes relevant to curriculum development.
