Our radio station has received two more award nominations!

Congratulations to the students who run our Cat Radio station for their nominations for two Student Radio Association awards, announced on 12 October 2016!

Our station received nominations both for Best Student Radio Chart Show and for Best Male - in the form of third year Radio Production student Tommie Watts.

Tommie said: "It’s a really fantastic feeling to get a national student radio award nomination. It came as a big surprise. I’m truly grateful for all the support and guidance I've received from my lecturers. I'm looking forward to the awards and also to further developing my presenting skills and my understanding of the radio industry."

Our chart show had featured, amongst other things, an exclusive interview with the chart-topping band The 1975. During the year our radio station also featured interviews with Chesney Hawkes and Viola Beach, who had also performed on air.

Earlier this year our station received the Student Radio Award for Best Training Initiative and received two nominations for Jerusalem awards. Also in 2016 two of our recent graduates were recognized by the Edinburgh International Television Festival's talent scheme.

Programme Leader in Radio Michelle Ponting is not unfamiliar with media awards herself. In 2014 she was nominated for an O2 award for Broadcast Presenter of the Year and and in 2015 she won an IRN award for best radio interview.

Head of Media, Dr Alec Charles said: "This is more brilliant award news for our radio team and for our department. It's so great that our students are recognized for producing high quality original professional work. They're really playing in the top national league."
