Radio students win another award

Our radio station has again been recognized in the Student Radio Awards.

Our Cat Radio station took the silver award in the prestigious Best Chart Show category. We had also received a nomination for Best Male – in the form of third year Radio Production student Tommie Watts.

Our chart show had featured, amongst other things, an exclusive interview with the chart-topping band The 1975. During the year our radio station also featured interviews with Chesney Hawkes and Viola Beach, who had also performed on air.

Earlier this year our station received the Student Radio Association’s award for Best Training Initiative and also received two nominations for Jerusalem awards. We also won the same award - silver for Best Chart Show - two years ago - as well as the Jerusalem award for Best Easter Programme. Recent recognition for our radio graduates includes two O2 Media Award nominations and an IRN news award.

BA Radio Production programme leader Michelle Ponting said: “This is fantastic for the students and the radio station to be awarded a national award. It’s great to see the Cat Radio being recognized in this way.”

Head of Media Dr Alec Charles added: “This is more brilliant news from our radio station. I’m almost starting to lose count of the number of nominations and awards our students and graduate have won in the last couple of years! We’ve just launched three new programmes in the subject area – BA Broadcast Production & Presenting, MA Radio Production and MA Broadcast Media – so this latest achievement couldn’t have come at a better time!”
