Chinese Language and Culture Opening Evening

Posted on 10th November 2016

The University of Chester China Centre held its first Chinese Language and Culture night on Thursday the 10th of November 2016.  Dr Min Ge programme leader of  Chinese Studies gave a brief introduction about the series of Chinese Language and Culture nights planned for every second Thursday of the month until May 2017.

The Chinese Language and Culture opening night was a great success with 73 people attending. In order to enhance the Chinese learning experience on campus, a language buddy programme has been introduced, which will help students find a study buddy to exchange language with.  Attendees enjoyed refreshments to mark the opening of the Chinese Language and Culture nights.

The aim of the evenings is to bring together students, staff and the community to learn Chinese phrases, exchange culture and meet new friends! On specific evenings visitors are invited to give a small talk on topics such as Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Film, Tang Poems, Tai Chi and Chinese Traditional music.

Topics confirmed for the following dates are:

Thursday 24th November 2016: Bomb, Book and Compass: The Chinese invented them first.

Thursday 8th December 2016: Images of England: Selected buildings in Chester.

Thursday 19th January 2017: Shanghai Man in Liverpool in World War 2.

We would like to thank our Chinese students who volunteered their time to help make the night a great success.  For further information on The China Centre events please click on the events section of our website http://www.chester.ac.uk/china-centre.
