PhD Student

Kate is currently studying for a PhD in the investigative and forensic areas of Psychology. She completed her Masters degree in Psychology at the University of Chester in 2016.


Kate’s research aims to investigate the tactics, strategies and interpersonal style used by investigative interviewers. The research will contribute to the limited preliminary research utilising and analysing real world police interviews with homicide suspects.

In particular, the study aims to explore police interview methods and the interpersonal style of the interviewers, investigating the effect on the interviewee, and also on the course and outcome of the interview. The research will examine the effect of disclosing evidence, questioning methods and tactics, and the police interviewers’ interpersonal style, such as, rapport, empathy, adaptive interviewing.
