Former University of Chester student Max Mayer appears in the Channel 4 documentary, Inside Alton Towers, on Thursday, August 23 at 9pm. The programme takes a look behind the scenes of the theme park in Staffordshire, as it prepares to unveil its latest rollercoaster, the wooden Wicker Man.

Max will be sharing his expertise as the Senior Brand Manager of Alton Towers Resort and showcases the launch of the multi-million pound Wicker Man. The product launch campaign is Merlin Entertainments’ most high profile to date.

Max’s marketing career has gone from strength-to-strength since he graduated. The former Events Management with Public Relations student is now the Head of Marketing at Farah Experiences, which operates multiple theme parks in Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.

Alongside a variety of award winning marketing campaigns, he also created the Hamley’s Christmas Toy parade, one of the UK’s largest events now approaching its fourth year with over a million visitors annually, while working as UK and ROI Marketing Manager for Hamleys of London.

He said: “Throughout my career I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best minds in the industry and it’s these interactions I value most. Without the advice and learnings from these inspirational people I wouldn’t have been equipped for success in any role.

"My advice to any prospective graduates is to follow your passion and never take your environment for granted. Every day is the opportunity to learn something new and push yourself to achieve something extraordinary.”

Colin Potts, Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events Management, who taught Max at the Warrington Campus, said: “Max stood out at University because of his outgoing personality and because of his absolute determination to succeed in the industry.

“He worked in the sector alongside his studies and was always full of ideas he wanted to bounce off his tutors. In his final year he won the University’s Enterprise Challenge Award for an events business he was developing. It is no surprise that his career has been so successful already!”
