The University of Chester is dedicated to supporting excellence in the interdisciplinary study of sport, including excellence in sports performance.

This objective underpins the establishment of the Basketball Scholarship scheme which will be organised and managed by the Faculty of Applied Sciences in partnership with Cheshire Jets. This scheme aims to cater for grass roots and elite level basketball players who will be following a course of study at Chester whilst maintaining and/or improving their basketball excellence. Scholarships are offered on a selective basis to suitably qualified applicants.

Cheshire Jets are a professional basketball club competing in the British Basketball League, the premiership of UK basketball enjoying considerable success and winning 7 trophies over the last 10 years. In addition The Jets run an extremely successful junior national league programme with a number of English and Welsh international players, teams making final fours and national champions over the last few years. Alongside this The Jets run the only advanced Apprentice in Sporting Excellence (AASE) in the North West, and EB men’s national league team.

Both University of Chester and Cheshire Jets are committed to developing basketball at a grass roots and elite level with the North West and giving students the opportunity to realise their basketball potential while studying at a top performing University by putting together the following unique package for four students:

  • Become part of the BBL team training and playing squad
  • Compete in the EB national league team
  • Complimentary gym membership
  • Personal trainer
  • Complimentary 16-25 Railcard

As well as receiving all of the above two students will receive a £500 voucher for books/laptop etc. and two further students will receive a £150 voucher for books/laptop etc.
