A Day in the Life

Ben Eaton is a second-year student of Creative Writing and English.

He’d go mad for a twenty-bag,

a gram and a Big Mac.

Dreams of fast-food

heart attacks, half asleep

on the bench in town

all tucked up

in a black refuse sack.

Seeing things through the bottom

of a brown plastic bottle,

holding up a cap and a multi-pack.

The bane of Bargain Booze.

One smuggled in his back pocket,

one confiscated by

fat-cats in yellow jackets.

Dinner simmers gently on a spoon,

bring to boil at the tip of a lighter.

On the swings after dark,

tightens his belt and waves at the moon.
