Blue Topaz Ring

Twiddled by ambivalent

fingers. Turned this way

and that. Catching the

light and throwing it back.

Fleeing through the colour

spectrum, from pale pink

to seething black.

mellowing to dull grey

indifference.

Connected by a thin circlet

of gold. A blue topaz

embedded in the metal,

imprisoned by a sunflower

of cold stones.
