Daedalus' Daughter

Maisie Miller is in the final year of her English degree.

Feathers; broad, abundant

jut from a broken shell.

Disjointed; she unfolds

fully-formed,

hips, flesh, breasts,

heaving

breathing.

She spreads

her wings;

escapes to the sky.

She flaunts the skin of a hippo,

her feathers affixed with cement.

She will not burn.

She will not melt.
